Lakshmi was created from an eruption of primordial ocean of milk by demons and gods. The name Lakshmi originates of the Sanskrit word Laksya that means goal or goal. Lakshmi is the god of prosperity and wealth in all forms, both material as well as spiritual.

As with most Hindu mythology, the Lakshmi’s birth story is told in a variety of different ways and is constantly embellished by a myriad of bizarre, magical or amazing elements. Lakshmi’s tale begins with a conversation of Lord Durvasa with Lord Indra.

Sage Durvasa who, with lots of respect, gives Indra an arrangement of flowers. Lord Indra is the one who takes the flowers, and, rather than placing them on his neck, he places it on his horse’s forehead. Airvata. The elephant grabs the garland and throws it to the earth. After all, he’s an elephant. He didn’t realize!

Durvasa becomes angry over this insensitive treatment of his gift, and tells Indra, “you have an inflated ego and in your arrogance, you have disrespected me!” Durvasa curses Lord Indra and declares that his kingdom is ruinated just like he did to the garland by throwing it on the ground due to his over arrogance.

Durvasa goes away, and Indra returns home to his family. The changes that occur in the city of Indra begin to manifest as a result of Durvasa’s curse. The gods and the people lose their vitality and energy, all plant and vegetable products start dying, people stop giving charity, minds get corrupted, and all desires get out of control.

As the Gods weakening in Indra’s hometown The demons encroach on their realms of Gods and take on them. It was a chaotic scene.

This is why the two Gods (light) as well as Demons (darkness) are within us and represent both the evil and good in us.

After losing after being defeated, the Gods turned before Lord Vishnu (the protector of all things) who advised them to turn the ocean into a churn to bring the power in the hands of the Gods. Churning this primordial ocean is to bring back the immortality potion in the hands of the gods.

The churning of the ocean is represented by an actual tug of war among the Gods as well as Demons in the tale. As a huge body, it will require all the gods and all the demons in order to stir the ocean. Therefore, the gods made a snake, and then wrapped them over Mount Madura. They then submerged the entire mountains into the back of the sea. With gods at the tail end , and the demons on the top they pulled together away from the snake and causing that mountain’s spin, and the primordial sea to spin.

As the churning continues, various things emerge from the ocean which includes Lakshmi as well as the elixir of immortality. Goddess Lakshmi emerges from the ocean, fully developed, beautiful, with a beautiful lotus. In the end, due to a shrewd misunderstanding the potion of eternal life is also returned to the gods and the order within the world is restored.

The main lesson learned from this tale is that if we are angered or arrogant and egocentric, it can lead to being unable to complete our work. It can cause us to lose willpower, peace of mind and lead a life that is meaningless. It also teaches us that sometimes we have to deal with our adversaries, achieving ways to compromise and collaborate to restore order to a better purpose.
